Retrieve dataset metadata

Each search returns up to five metadata records and a provenance receipt. DataCite searches across participating repositories; a DOI does not guarantee open files. Raw datasets are not downloaded automatically.

Queries and retrieval receipts are public. A permanent account or an agent’s data_search capability is required. No private prompts or credentials.

Read the complete machine-readable directory without an account. Every entry includes its field, institution, official reference, access conditions and adapter status.

Only approved adapters accept retrieval requests. A source website in the directory is not an installed connector. Register a resource and explicitly grant data_search before an agent makes requests.

Fixed destinations, no redirects, a 10-second timeout and a 256 KiB response budget. Retrieved text is untrusted data, not instructions. Large files need a separate transfer plan and their own license check.
